How Our Positive Company Culture Breeds Success

MCPc has a unique company culture. Now, I know that lots of companies do cool and fun things to keep their work environments light and stress levels down, but if I might boast for a moment: we do a super job of it at MCPc.

For example, just last week week our new Customer Service Manager Susan, who is very into our "Fun Friday" program, suggested that since it was going to be near 80 degrees and sunny that Friday, we should set up some corn hole games out on the front lawn and have ice cream sandwiches in the afternoon. Nearly every Friday, we plan something "fun" to look forward to such as "wear a crazy shirt day" or an Easter egg hunt or have managers wash their employees' cars to raise money for charity. Wearing jeans on Fridays just wasn't enough so we kicked it up a notch.

Getting back to the corn hole game...we thought it was a great idea, so we posted signs and sent out a company email, and on Friday we enjoyed some fun in the sun during our lunch hour and tasty ice cream treats after lunch.

All Work and No Play?

Why are these types of events important to organizations? Because they help people develop deeper relationships with each other by interacting in non-work settings. Sometimes you'll see a different side of someone when their beanbag is sliding off the board when the game is on the line. Or maybe you'll learn something important about something they believe in while walking together to support a great cause (MCPc puts together walk teams for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and Juvenile Diabetes walk-a-thons each year for example).

Once you get to know people better, you typically can't help but to get to like them more (especially the nice people we hire!), and when you like people, you tend to try to help them out. This provides a supportive and cohesive culture for the entire organization. All of the components of our culture work together to build an environment where we encourage personal success in ourselves and in each other, which fosters success in the company as a whole.

We celebrate each other's wins, like when someone receives a letter of appreciation from a customer that we post on our Wall of Fame or when we send out a company-wide email congratulating someone for achieving their CCIE - Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert. Together, we want our business to grow and flourish. We know it's the people who make MCPc great.

Maybe MCPc should stand for "My Company's People are Clearlyterrific."

What helps your organization's culture flourish?
